Katie recently cared for a patient admitted for failure to thrive and depression. In the matter of just a few months, the patient had endured the heartbreaking loss of both a spouse and a child. Tragically, during this same hospital stay, the patient experienced yet another loss when their sibling, who had visited them in the ER prior to admission, passed away.

Throughout this incredibly difficult time, Katie remained a steady source of comfort and compassion, spending meaningful time at the bedside offering support, kindness and reassurance when it was needed most. Later, after the patient had calmed some and returned from walking with therapy, Katie surprised them with flowers and a stuffed animal from the gift shop — a simple but deeply thoughtful gesture that brought light to an otherwise painful day.

This is just one example of the extraordinary compassion, selflessness and genuine care Katie shows every single day. The difference they make in the lives of patients goes far beyond clinical care and speaks to the heart of what it means to serve others.
