This is where the physicians will see the athletes that they themselves or the athletic trainers of Union Health Sports Medicine have seen in the field and deemed necessary for further follow-up. Union Hospital Medicine exists to provide sports medicine and rehabilitation services to the athletes of the Wabash Valley.

What is a Certified Athletic Trainer?

The Certified Athletic Trainer is a highly skilled and well-educated professional who specializes in the prevention, treatment and rehabilitation of athletic injuries. In cooperation with physicians and other health professionals, the athletic trainer functions as an integral member of the athletic healthcare team. Certified Athletic Trainers administer immediate emergency care and, under the supervision of a physician, use their knowledge of the injuries incurred to develop a treatment program.

Do I need a referral to see a Sports Medicine physician?

If you are an athlete, you do not require a referral from your family doctor unless your insurance requires one.
