Our sports medicine team uses Sway Medical, a modern, mobile concussion assessment platform that provides objective balance and cognitive testing. Sway allows athletes to complete baseline testing before their season begins, establishing individualized performance data that can be used for comparison if a concussion is suspected.
Following a suspected concussion, a post-injury Sway assessment may be administered as directed by the athlete's healthcare provider. Follow-up testing may be repeated throughout recovery to monitor progress and assist in return-to-learn and return-to-play decision-making. Post-injury results are compared to the athlete's baseline performance and reviewed by a sports medicine provider or one of the Union Medical Group physicians.
