High-Risk Pregnancies

Union Hospital is the area leader for treating high-risk pregnancy patients. The 24/7 availability of anesthesiologists, OB hospitalists, and neonatologists at Union Hospital, as well as advanced certification, means we are prepared for even the most serious pregnancy complications.

A high-risk pregnancy is one where complications could threaten your or your baby’s life. Many factors can make a pregnancy high-risk, such as:

  • Advanced maternal age
  • Existing health conditions, such as high blood pressure, diabetes, or obesity
  • Pregnancy of multiples (twins, triplets, etc.)
  • Prior history of pregnancy complications
  • Unhealthy lifestyle, such as smoking, drinking alcohol, or taking illicit drugs

Dr. Mary Abernathy is considered one of the country's top doctors in Maternal-Fetal Medicine. Talk to your OBGYN or primary care provider if your pregnancy has been classified as high-risk to be scheduled with Dr. Abernathy.

Regardless of the reason for your pregnancy being classified as high-risk, Union Health provides advanced support before, during, and after birth.
