Union Hospital Terre Haute has received the American Heart Association’s 2026 Get With The Guidelines® - Stroke Gold Plus quality achievement award. Union Hospital Clinton received Rural Stroke Gold recognition. These awards recognize Union Health’s commitment to providing timely, evidence-based stroke care that can save lives and reduce disability.
Stroke is the No. 4 cause of death and a leading cause of disability in the U.S. It occurs when a blood vessel carrying oxygen and nutrients to the brain is blocked by a clot or bursts. Fast recognition and treatment are critical to improving survival, limiting disability and supporting recovery.
Get With The Guidelines applies the expertise of the American Heart Association and American Stroke Association to help hospitals align care with current research-based standards. The Stroke program promotes consistent use of these guidelines to improve outcomes and reduce the long-term effects of stroke.
Hospitals earn these awards by showing a consistent commitment to quality stroke care. In addition to following treatment guidelines, participants educate patients on how to manage their health and recovery at home.
Union Hospital Terre Haute also earned the American Heart Association’s Target: StrokeSM Honor Roll Elite Plus award. This recognition is given to hospitals that meet criteria for reducing the time between an eligible patient’s arrival and treatment with thrombolytic therapy.
Union Hospital Terre Haute also received the American Heart Association’s Target: Type 2 Diabetes™ Honor Roll award. This recognition supports up-to-date, evidence-based care for stroke patients with Type 2 diabetes, who may face a higher risk of complications.
